Jack Roots had a career in bespoke furniture making before turning his hand to shepherds' huts - his furniture was playful and elegant.
Jack has been a cabinet maker for nearly two decades: in that time he has done many and varied projects, some very large, some very small, but all to the same exacting quality. He has now turned his hand to making bespoke shepherds' huts. He first displayed his prototype at various venues over the summer of 2018. To see the quality of his furniture work visit:
Jack knows that through his craftsmanship anything is possible, and your dream shepherd's hut can be handmade exactly to your specification.
As a design graduate Jack takes the design process seriously: the prototype is not simply another shepherd's hut, but it is a complete rethink of the design. It is a historical object that has a line of tradition behind it, the shepherds of old using cattle to tow it to the sheep on the high pasture in summer and live there for the season. These days are gone! However, the object has been re-emerging in recent years with new purposes, hence the need for it to be redesigned to find its place in the modern world. Is it an office? a studio? a garden room? a writer's retreat? a coffee shop? a playroom? a spare bedroom etc,etc......... the possibilities are endless - and the choice is yours.
There are perhaps two reasons for the re-emergence of the shepherd's hut: a nostalgic view of an attractive object from our past agricultural heritage, and also the realisation that as mobile structures, they are not subject to planning laws. You can therefore place this beautiful and iconic object wherever you choose on your property, even on your front lawn.
Contact Jack with your exact requirements and he will be able to convert your vision into a beautiful shepherd's hut of uncompromising quality.
